The Best Pooch Pie! Vegan & Gluten Free
Got something to celebrate with your pooch? A birthday, a puppy school or obedience class graduation?
Bake them a delicious Pooch Pie!
Our recipe, made with all the healthiest ingredients, is sure to please all dogs whether they’re a meat eater, vegan or gluten free.
The first time we made this cake it was a great success. It was given to a dog named Gracie (who is gluten free) on her birthday, AND SHE LOVED IT! Since Gracie was born she has had trouble with any food that contains gluten or high levels of meat so the ingredients we chose for this recipe had to be selected carefully.
The second time we made this cake it was for a very finicky eater named Charles who was celebrating his 3rd Doggie Birthday. Charles usually isn’t persuaded by treats, no matter how delicious. He thinks he is a human and if you’re not eating what you’re giving him, he won’t either. When Charles’ people put down his cake he was a little weiry at first, slowly licking away at the peanut butter, but when Charles’ dad took a bit out of the cake all bets were off, Charles dug right in and devoured his Pooch Pie. (best of all, if your pup really isn’t a fan of our Pooch Pie, it is perfectly safe for humans to eat, so enjoy)
Needless to say, this recipes has been a hit and it is now our favourite and go to recipe for all our doggie involved celebrations!
Super Delicious, Super Healthy, Vegan Pooch Pie
Ingredients:
- 1 cup Gluten Free Flour (I use Robin Hood – Nutri Blend – Gluten Free)
- 1/2 cup Pureed Sweet Potatoes
- 1/2 a Mashed Banana
- 1/2 cup Unsweetened Applesauce
- 1/2 cup Pumpkin Puree
- 1/4 Ground Flax Seed
- 1/4 cup Natural Unsweetened Peanut Butter
- 1 tsp Baking Soda (mix in with flour)
- 1 tbsp Maple Syrup
- 1/4 tsp Cinnamon
- 1/4-1/2 cup Nondairy Milk or Water (I started with a 1/4 cup water, add until batter is thick and well combined. Soy and Rice Milk are best, stay away from anything with tree nuts such as Almond Milk).
How To Bake:
Preheat oven to 350 Degrees F
Mix all your wet ingredients with a blender. Next, add all your dry ingredients. Mix well – add more water or milk if needed. Scrape batter into a pan greased with coconut oil – use whatever pan you’d like, I’ve used two small circular pans to make a double decker/layered cake, cupcake tins, and my favourite, a dog bone shaped pan. Bake for 30 minutes – the cake should be golden brown & smelling amazing!
When your cake is done in the oven, remove and let cool. When cake is completely cooled off, cover with peanut butter & decorate with your dogs favourite treats or just leave it plain, either way, your dog will LOVE IT!
Show your how much you love them with this yummy in their tummy treat!
Happy Baking – Enjoy!
